My Personal UFL City Picks

March 28, 2008

I have been thinking about what cities will make it and I think I am going to go out on a limb and call the 6 first teams.

  1. Los Angeles, CA - Basiclly Cuban takes this one. Huge market, great potential, plenty of stadiums to use. Easy pick here.
  2. Las Vegas, NV - Ok so apparently 3 investing groups have been dukeing it out for this one and when last I heard, they were pretty much finished and this was a done deal.
  3. Orlando, Fl -  This one is the dark horse to me. O-town is a great market and has plenty of support. The Orlando Sentinel has posted back in December that a UFL team was coming, BUT it seems the article has been buried or retracted quietly.  If ownership fell through the cracks, there may not be another buyer to come in behind here.  But personally, I hope this one makes it.
  4. Austin, TX - Great town, great people, and support. Another no-brainer here. I think this beats out San Antonio by a longshot.
  5. New York, NY - This one is a tough pick. You have 2 NFL teams already, but such a plentiful market. I could be wrong here, but if I was an investor and saw some of the above picks already get swiped up, I think I would have to grab NY before its taken.
  6. Columbus, OH, - My final pick. Another great football town with a surplus of pigskin blood.

So thats my guesses, what do you think will be the first?

Voting For Your United Football League Team

March 28, 2008

Heres the deal. You can help bring the UFL to a city near you. You have 13 proposed cites to put a down-payment on season tickets for the games. You pay 5 dollars to secure your slot. And the top 8 markets that have the most pre-sold ticket sales gets the teams. If your market(city) doesn’t get a team, you get a full refund, but if your city does get a team, then you will have your reservations set for seasons tickets and your deposit goes towards that purchase.

I have seen this done in a few cities before for other sports. In Virginia we did it to try to get a professional baseball team in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. I don’t have any problem dropping the minimum purchase of $5 dollars for my vote.

To vote for your team, go to FirstDibz(formally ticketreserve) and secure your vote!

Here are the cities you can vote for Austin, TX, Birmingham, AL, Columbus, OH, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA, Louisville, KY, Memphis, TN, New York, NY, Oklahoma City, OK, Orlando, FL, Raleigh-Durham, NC, Sacramento, CA & San Antonio, TX

Clock is ticking and the countdown is almost here, yet still no announcement. I hope this doesn’t get pushed back also.

Top 5 Things The UFL Is Lacking For a Successful Launch

March 20, 2008

I am looking forward to the Launch of the UFL, but I am disappointed on a few things they seem to be lacking that would fuel a successful takeoff. Without these things, I believe that the UFL will not make it and fizzle out.

  1. HYPE - Having people on board like Mark Cuban and Tim Armstrong you would think they would be able to deliver the hype. Mark is the king of sports hype based on controversy and unusual practices. Tim, embedded in Google should know how to grow successfully. So why is it that they can’t get the media to cover more about the UFL? Do something, anything, to get our attention!
  2. Convince Us Its Going To Happen - Look, I understand your out stoppin’ the ground trying to get owners to step up and buy into the UFL, but if you can convince the football fan this is going to happen, and its not another flop like the XFL; then the fans will fuel the growth and more investors will see the light. Focus more on growing the fan base.
  3. More Information - The UFL launch site sucks, is dinky and lacking. The launch date of the UFL is rumored to pushed to 2009 but it’s still showing 2008. You have 2 press releases total and no updated news. If didn’t know any better, I would think you are a 1 man show. Show us some growth man!
  4. Endorsements & Sponsors - Ok, as much as I don’t want to admit it, people follow brands. If you can get a few good names to back up the UFL, then people will notice. Plus, it gives the UFL legitimacy.
  5. Player & Coach Commitment - If you can get some good strong names to commit to the UFL, or even show interest, then you can spark fan excitement.

Starting a sports enterprise like the UFL is no easy accomplishment, especially with the competition running such a monopoly on the game. Our top 5 list is not law, but it certainly is a good start.

What things do you think the UFL is in need of to launch successfully?
