August 13, 2008
The UFL has lanched www.ufl-football.com with a newsletter signup and a comming soon message. Not much more to show as the UFL continues to be slow to reach potential fans with news and updates. At least this is a step in forward movement.
On other domain news, I happen to know that the following domains are for sale (because I own them!).

Michael Huyghue gives a small UFL update at Players Association Seminar
April 9, 2008
Michael Huyghue, commissioner of the new United Football League, was at the NFLPA seminar where he address some of the pending questions out there about the UFL. Huyghue told agents that the league is scheduled for kick off in August 2009, playing a fall schedule on Friday nights. Huyghue said the UFL will sign veteran players who had signed an NFL contract at least once in their football careers. The league will also compete with the NFL for rookie players drafted in rounds 3-7 of the NFL’s annual college draft. Player salaries will range from $75,000 to $1 million. The league is targeting major U.S. markets that currently do not have an NFL team, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Memphis and Orlando.
The fact that he mentioned Memphis might mean there is a team setup for the blues town. If so, that would be a shocker for me, I didn’t think that there is a big enough stadium or pull in that area. But hey, I have been wrong before.
Updated News
March 28, 2008
Ok, so the official launch date (pushed back from 2008) will be August 2009. Michael Huyghue told agents that he has Six owners already. One of them you can guess is Mark Cuban. We have no details on who they are and are still waiting for official public news.
On another note, some(agents still) have reported that the minimum salary for the UFL will start out at $75,000 and the league will go after some of the NFL existing personel and assistant coaches to be the league’s General Managers and coaches. Also stated was that the UFL will attempt to sign some of the 30th - 43rd players on the NFL rosters for more money than they will be making in the NFL (though only slightly more).
Well thats it for now, I will keep pushing for more information shortly to give you all.

Announcements of Teams, Locations, & Stadiums Soon
March 21, 2008
In a few days from now we should hear from the UFL Commissioner Huyghue the announcement of the leagues first 6 teams, ownership groups, stadiums, and national television deal. Also the possibility of the teams coaches and general managers. This should launch the media into a frenzy. I expect they, the UFL, will also make the official launch date public.
Keep in mind that if the public date has been pushed back to 2009, then we can expect the press to take cheep shots at it. But let’s be honest, to put a whole league and launch it in the time they intended, was a bit of a beast for a task. From the beginning I have had my doubts on the timing. But if that is the worse of thing, then I think we are in for some exciting times.

March 18, 2008

Target markets include: Birmingham, Columbus, Hartford, Las Vegas, London (England), Los Angeles, Louisville, Memphis, Mexico City (Mexico), Milwaukee, Monterrey (Mexico), Oklahoma City, Orlando, Portland, Raleigh-Durham, Sacramento, Salt Lake City, San Antonio and San Jose.
United Football League Names Michael Huyghue First Commissioner
March 18, 2008
UFL names Michael Huyghue as the league’s first commissioner. The league plans on making additional executive announcements in the upcoming weeks.
So who is this guy? Apparently he has been in football for more than 20 years and started his sport involvement career out as CEO of Axcess Sports & Entertainment. According to the official UFL press release;
Huyghue brings more than 20 years of football experience to the UFL. He has served as a lawyer for the NFL’s Players Association and Management Council, and was the youngest general manger in professional football when he joined the NFL’s World League 1989 at the age of 29. He later became Vice President and General Counsel for the Detroit Lions and then Senior Vice President of Football Operations for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the team’s inaugural season in the NFL.

United Football League Now Has A Website
March 18, 2008
The UFL finally has an official website, though its lacking in information and content. The site is www.UFL2008.com which I am sure they are securing a better domain, least I hope so. I expect the site to grow shortly as we get closer to the August start date.
NFL Biased Reports Start the BS
June 6, 2007
Nick Canepa thows his 2 cents out about the UFL. And from what I can read 2 cents is all its worth. Anyone can and should have an opinion, but to toss around your opinion as defacto without full understanding is just ignorance. Yes its true that many other leagues have tried and failed, and yes the NFL is a monopoly. But just because something
failed before doesn’t mean it will always fail. And quit focusing on Cuban as if he is the deciding factor on whether the UFL will work or not. Instead look at the main founders Hambrecht and Armstrong, both business geniuses who have succeeded in this kind of competition. If you look at the United Football League from a business perspective, it works and well at that. Next time educate yourself on a more rounded approach Nick!
The cats out of the bag
June 5, 2007
Ok, its official. The cats out of the bag and we have a new league and some big money is pushing it forward.
Welcome to the UFL, the new alternative to the NFL monopoly. New York Times shoots off the first news item about the new league and the founder[s].
The article is definitely worth reading. Here are some bullet points;
- Founder Bill Hambrecht has the experience to go head to head against a beast like the NFL
- Google Senior Exec Tim Armstrong is also a UFL Founder
- UFL already has their executive Spearheads [Bill Daugherty, the C.E.O.; Jon Brod, the C.O.O.; and Andrew Goldberg, a senior analys].
- And what I would say something I expected; Mark Cuban is jumping onboard as their first team owner.
- Team cities already lined up for Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Mexico City .
- Cost effective startup at 30 mill per team- half owner invested.
- Fan buyins! Fans to be able to purchase team shares
- Open door to Friday Night time slot on TV (NFL cannot broadcast on Fridays)
- “Bill Walsh used to tell me that the last 20 players cut from every team were almost interchangeable with the last 20 players to make the team,” Hambrecht says. The new league will hire the best of those last 20 players — along with the best of the Arena players, the Canadian Football League players and so on.
- U.F.L. will be able to offer most rookies, who aren’t top draft choices, far more money than the N.F.L. would give them. And since the N.F.L. salary cap has been negotiated with the players’ union, it can’t be unilaterally changed.
Thats just the tip of the iceburg; What are your thoughts so far?
