From this discussion we got some great news about the new teams, salary caps, and more. But we will cover those jucie tidbits later. The most interesting news was that Michael Vick will be playing UFL when he is released from the federal prision in July of 2009. Huyghue has stated that the chances of Vick playing for the UFL is about 98%.

With a 20 million dollar cap for the team. Vick will be able to recoup some of his losses from prison time by making anywhere from 1 million to 4 million a year.

For a while I have been speculating that Vick would be coming to the UFL. Personally I think this will be good for the UFL even if he caries a fowl oder. Any press good or bad is good press. What do you think?

Michael Huyghue, commissioner of the new United Football League, was at the NFLPA seminar where he address some of the pending questions out there about the UFL. Huyghue told agents that the league is scheduled for kick off in August 2009, playing a fall schedule on Friday nights. Huyghue said the UFL will sign veteran players who had signed an NFL contract at least once in their football careers. The league will also compete with the NFL for rookie players drafted in rounds 3-7 of the NFL’s annual college draft. Player salaries will range from $75,000 to $1 million. The league is targeting major U.S. markets that currently do not have an NFL team, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Memphis and Orlando.

The fact that he mentioned Memphis might mean there is a team setup for the blues town. If so, that would be a shocker for me, I didn’t think that there is a big enough stadium or pull in that area. But hey, I have been wrong before.

I have been thinking about what cities will make it and I think I am going to go out on a limb and call the 6 first teams.

Los Angeles, CA - Basiclly Cuban takes this one. Huge market, great potential, plenty of stadiums to use. Easy pick here.

Las Vegas, NV - Ok so apparently 3 investing groups have been dukeing it out for this one and when last I heard, they were pretty much finished and this was a done deal.

Orlando, Fl - This one is the dark horse to me. O-town is a great market and has plenty of support. The Orlando Sentinel has posted back in December that a UFL team was coming, BUT it seems the article has been buried or retracted quietly. If ownership fell through the cracks, there may not be another buyer to come in behind here. But personally, I hope this one makes it.

Austin, TX - Great town, great people, and support. Another no-brainer here. I think this beats out San Antonio by a longshot.

New York, NY - This one is a tough pick. You have 2 NFL teams already, but such a plentiful market. I could be wrong here, but if I was an investor and saw some of the above picks already get swiped up, I think I would have to grab NY before its taken.

Columbus, OH, - My final pick. Another great football town with a surplus of pigskin blood.

So thats my guesses, what do you think will be the first?

Heres the deal. You can help bring the UFL to a city near you. You have 13 proposed cites to put a down-payment on season tickets for the games. You pay 5 dollars to secure your slot. And the top 8 markets that have the most pre-sold ticket sales gets the teams. If your market(city) doesn’t get a team, you get a full refund, but if your city does get a team, then you will have your reservations set for seasons tickets and your deposit goes towards that purchase.

I have seen this done in a few cities before for other sports. In Virginia we did it to try to get a professional baseball team in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. I don’t have any problem dropping the minimum purchase of $5 dollars for my vote.

To vote for your team, go to FirstDibz(formally ticketreserve) and secure your vote!

Here are the cities you can vote for Austin, TX, Birmingham, AL, Columbus, OH, Las Vegas, NV, Los Angeles, CA, Louisville, KY, Memphis, TN, New York, NY, Oklahoma City, OK, Orlando, FL, Raleigh-Durham, NC, Sacramento, CA & San Antonio, TX

Ok, so the official launch date (pushed back from 2008) will be August 2009. Michael Huyghue told agents that he has Six owners already. One of them you can guess is Mark Cuban. We have no details on who they are and are still waiting for official public news.

On another note, some(agents still) have reported that the minimum salary for the UFL will start out at $75,000 and the league will go after some of the NFL existing personel and assistant coaches to be the league’s General Managers and coaches. Also stated was that the UFL will attempt to sign some of the 30th - 43rd players on the NFL rosters for more money than they will be making in the NFL (though only slightly more).

Well thats it for now, I will keep pushing for more information shortly to give you all.
