My Personal UFL City Picks

March 28, 2008

I have been thinking about what cities will make it and I think I am going to go out on a limb and call the 6 first teams.

  1. Los Angeles, CA - Basiclly Cuban takes this one. Huge market, great potential, plenty of stadiums to use. Easy pick here.
  2. Las Vegas, NV - Ok so apparently 3 investing groups have been dukeing it out for this one and when last I heard, they were pretty much finished and this was a done deal.
  3. Orlando, Fl -  This one is the dark horse to me. O-town is a great market and has plenty of support. The Orlando Sentinel has posted back in December that a UFL team was coming, BUT it seems the article has been buried or retracted quietly.  If ownership fell through the cracks, there may not be another buyer to come in behind here.  But personally, I hope this one makes it.
  4. Austin, TX - Great town, great people, and support. Another no-brainer here. I think this beats out San Antonio by a longshot.
  5. New York, NY - This one is a tough pick. You have 2 NFL teams already, but such a plentiful market. I could be wrong here, but if I was an investor and saw some of the above picks already get swiped up, I think I would have to grab NY before its taken.
  6. Columbus, OH, - My final pick. Another great football town with a surplus of pigskin blood.

So thats my guesses, what do you think will be the first?

I agree with most of your choices save Austin. I was born and raised in and around the San Antonio/Austin area and San Antonio beats Austin by a long shot on this one. SA = great people, great town, BIGGER market, short drive from Austin, and better support of all things non-Longhorns. Not to knock Austin cause I love that city but they couldn’t even support an AFL team (the Austin Wranglers got dropped to the AFL minor leagues this year). Austin doesn’t really care to support much of anything outside of the Longhorns and their minor league baseball team. S.A. on the other hand proved it’s ready for big time football when it hosted the Saints. Take it from a local, this is one area where S.A. ups Austin big time… Now if we were talking live music that would be a different story. ;-)
